Retaining The Value of Your Harley Davidson Motorcycle

Retaining The Value of Your Harley Davidson MotorcycleThere is no doubt about it, Harley Davidson motorcycle are not cheap, and in case you didn?t know they hold their value better than any other motorcycle in the world, but if you didn?t know using low quality parts and accessories can actually hurt the long term value of your Harley motorcycle.

If you have a vintage Harley, the first thing that will dramatically reduce your bikes value are aftermarket parts that were not part of your motorcycles original build. Removing and replacing parts like a springer front end or original 4-speed transmission could drastically lower your Harleys value. The total value of all vintage Harley Davidson motorcycles evolves around your bike being in its factory configuration, and modification that were not part of the era or time frame the motorcycle was produced.

When comes to newer Harley models it is all about keeping the bike clean and in good running order, while minimizing the use of poor quality parts and accessories. A perfect example of how using lower quality parts on your bike could have adverse effects in the future can be getting insurance for your Harley. The first thing that any insurance agent will do before insuring your bike is to verify the current value of your Harley and then assign a value of replacement. A bike that has too many low quality after market parts will affect both bike values and ultimately should your bike be totaled in an accident, your insurance payout would significantly lower than it should be.

Retaining your motorcycles value is especially important should you decide to sell your bike in the future. Motorcycle buyers are a tough crowd; wise motorcycles buys do their homework, they know the difference between a well built bike, and one that is thrown together or fitted with inferior quality parts and accessories. You may find your bikes value drop significantly with some aftermarket parts.

Another concern in keeping the value of your Harley as high as possible is directly reflected in how your bike is set up. I have seen some vintage sportsters that once had superior resale value, only to be almost worthless because they were all but wrecked with mismatched, missing, or broken parts. Once such motorcycle I saw had poor handmade drag bars that were bent incorrectly leaving them uneven, giving the bike a hideous appearance.

The bottom line revolves around keeping the value of your Harley Davidson motorcycle value as possible, whether you intend to keep it for life or possibly resell it sometime in the future. Keeping you Harley in all original condition or only using high quality custom or aftermarket parts is a sure fire way to achieve that goal!
